Help with CPU question please.

Should I go with the q6600 quad core or the E8400 Wolfdale? What's better in the long run.. the quad is 20$ more so should i get that or does the difference warrant the money? Will also be getting a 4850 and a 600watt PSU and 4 gigs of ram if you need other specs. Thanks for the help everyone!Help with CPU question please.
They're both great CPUs. I like the quad core a little better. You give yourself more room to multitask/render. Games right now won't take full advantage of it, but they will in the future. If you want the extra $20 and plan on purely gaming, then the 4800 will do you just fine. They're both great CPU's. It's really up to you and how often you upgrade. If you know/learn how to OC and don't upgrade much, then the Q6600 would be the better choice. Help with CPU question please.
Will the quad become the main anytime soon or will it be a waste? I guess what I'm asking would it be safer to get the quad for the future or get the dual and a quad later on?

As for the future, the newest CPUs coming out by Intel(around December-February) will use a completely different socket. After that, if you want a good upgrade, you'll end up upgrading your CPU and mobo.
This is a pretty tough choice >.>

Since you seem to know a lot what would you get with a 4850, 4 gigs (800mhz), 600 watt psu and no crossfire mobo?

Pure gaming = E8400/8500Serious multitasking/3D rendering = Q6600/Q6700You'll be very pleased with whichever one you choose. I think on your build I would go with the E8400 and just be ready to upgrade my mobo/CPU next time around(which you shouldn't worry about having to do for at least a year, probably).
FYI, The E8600 is coming in a couple of weeks:http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core2duo-e8600.html
Well.. I went ahead and ordered the q6600 :P Thanks for the help.
