HD 4870 issue

Hello everyone,

I have an ATI 4870, i installed the latest catalyst driver and now when I go into games like COD4 or Combat Arms, the monitor flickers on and off for a few seconds randomly throughtout the game.

Sometimes it happens a lot, sometimes it doesnt as much. I have just gotten this card and its new. What is the problem? Anyone experience this as well?

thank you in advance.HD 4870 issue

thank you in advance.[/QUOTE] I've gotten a couple game crashes. Once playing The Witcher, and once playing Crysis. I'll be honest, the HD4870 8.7 Catalyst Driver isnt nothing to brag to your friends about. It's suppose to make games more stable, and increase performance by 1% which is lackluster to say the least. I had a lot of trouble downloading the driver as well, getting errors and corrupt data. After a few tries, I was able to get it to download perfectly. If you dont feel like you want it, dont download it because it doesnt really do anything. If you can download it with no trouble, then get it. As for the flickering, I havent run into any, and I pray that I dont. Overall rating of 8.7 driver = Crap.HD 4870 issue
I have no issues with the 8.7 Catalyst suite.Did you make sure to remove any previous (Nvidia) drivers? Also, try and use the 8.6 4800 Hotfix drivers and see if they work. They're on the AMD Game site, top of the Radeon drivers page.Elann, if you're getting corrupt data downloads, you're either having problems with your network, RAM, HDD or motherboard.

All I did to fix it was uninstall ATi components and CCC, re-installed, downloaded the new driver and it was fine after that.
have the heating and idle power consumption issues with the 4870 been fixed ? Im wondering whether to get the gtx 260 or 4870
