Is this normal in a gamepad?

Hey guys, recent events forced me to buy 3 gamepads, so I bought 3 budget priced Logitech Dual Action gamepad for my PC games. As I'm configuring the gamepad controls for Serious Sam (great game for 4 players!), I realized that the D-pad (which is located furthest left on the gamepad) buttons are exactly the same as the left analog stick! pointing the left analog up is labeled as ''Joystick Button X'' (cant remember wat number) and pointing the left D-pad up is also labeled as ''Joystick Button X''. Is this how a gamepad is suppose to function? They both function exactly the same! How (if possible) can I separate them into two distinct functions? (some games like Marvel UA require alot of buttons)The gamepad also have a ''mode'' button that switches between the left analog stick and the D-pad, but it doesnt help as pressing it switches the left analog stick off completely, making the D-pad the functioning unit. Thanks for any help!WQIs this normal in a gamepad?
well, i dunno if it works the same with gamepads, but i had to disabe the ''report combined axis'' in my logitech profiler menu with my steering wheel, there should be a similar option for that gamepad
