The sound seems to ''shut off'' at very random points in certain games - it just... dissappeared when I was playing the first mission in the Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts Demo, I can't hear anything at all in the Dawn of War: Dark Crusade menu (and attempting to switch mods hangs the game) and whenever I try playing the SP mission campaign in the OFP demo, it goes off as well. :|Half the fun I have with my games is when I can hear the roar of guns, the screams of dying people, well-voiced dialouge, .etc... Which means that I have to start up the damn game again if the sound goes ''.......''. Also, my Winamp gets screwed - I'll be playing a song then all of a sudden I can't hear anything (no, that's not the ending of the song) and if I keep it going, the PC crashes. Also, whenever I try to play a skirmish map in Company of Heroes, the monitor just shuts off by itself, and whenever I turn it back on, it shuts off again, meaning that I have to restart the PC. It's pretty damn annoying that I have to keep turning the damn PC off everytime I get these problems. Any ideas? Sumthin's up with mah PC....
Overheating id say, but then i dont see how winamp can stress a comp to overheat and i dont know about the moniter thing. The only a other thing i could think of is a virusSumthin's up with mah PC....

Looks like temps prob or a poor PSU or driver.
Give us all the specifications of your PC.
I don't know ALL the specs. Only RAM, CPU and GPU, and HDD size. This PC is very outdated, though... 2004 med-ish.P4 2.4 GHz1 GB RAMGeforce 6600 GT AGPHDD = 24GB (C), 55 GB (D).
looks like a heating problem. Okay open up your case and see how much dust is inside the case. If its a large amount you need to get a can of air duster for your computer to blow off all the dust.
Hm...When you you're doing nothing on the Windows desktop, how much RAM are you using?I'm thinking that you've probably got too many background processes running, and the crashes are from the PC having to use the HDD as RAM.Also, as filmography said, maybe have a look to see if your PC isn't clogged with dust. I'm just wondering if it's a hardware or software issue.
But I got these problems right after I vacuumed the PC....Which reminds me, I wasn't getting these problems before that.Oh and my paging file size ranges from 2 GB to 2.5 GB. There's about 2.7 GB of HDD Space left in Drive C (After the paging file takes a chunk out of it) and 13 GB in Drive D. According to my windows task manager, approximately half the physical RAM is used when I'm being idle.Which reminds me, everytime I shut down, I get these messages about winamp still being active and I have to manually close those programs..... even if they weren't actually active at the time.
But I got these problems right after I vacuumed the PC....Which reminds me, I wasn't getting these problems before that.
You vacuumed out your case? That wasn't a great idea. If the nozzle touches any of the hardware components or even if you get it too close to anything, it can cause a short as the particles being sucked in and brushing against the hose create static along it. It's possible you got too close to the sound card with it and shorted something out on it.The best way to clean your case is to use either cans of compressed air or an actual air compressor to blow the dust off of components and out of the case.Oh, and 2.7GB left on your hard drive is cutting it way too close (you want 15% space empty at all times at the very least). Filling it up too much slows things down and can cause problems if you fill it almost to the max, not to mention applications today probably need more headway than they used to back when an itty-bitty 24GB was normal. I'd recommend freeing up at least 5GB of space.
Oh no.. Yeah, you should never vacuum your PC. Must have been a static situation.
I would disconnect the pc and check one by one the components and all the cables of the motherboard, and look if something is loose inside, sounds like you hit something
