I want to get a 4800 series video card, but I dont want to have to manually jack the fan speed up to have it sound like a hurricane. Or put extra stress on the fan. By default these things run too hot, preiod. I wonder if AMD is doing anything about it?? or if any third party will make a card that runs cooler. Is there any 4800 series cards in the works that run cooler by default?
I could be horribly wrong, but I thought new drivers were released by AMD or ATI? that fixed some of these issues. Just what I thought I heard. Is there any 4800 series cards in the works that run cooler by default?
Where did you read that at? would be nice if thats the case.
I could be horribly wrong, but I thought new drivers were released by AMD or ATI? that fixed some of these issues. Just what I thought I heard.
Something along those lines. And yes, it would be stellar if it were true, though, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before drivers are released by them anyway, if they haven't been.
No, the drivers are still useless. You have to manually change the fan speed. Upon doing so, they run at good temps. If you want great temps, though, prepare for a turbine that sounds like a hairdryer in your PC case. Many manufacturers are whipping up models with aftermarket cooling, though, it will just take some time to get here. For example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102760
Yeah I will just have to wait, I dont want to buy a card until around xmas so then the 4870 should have a aftermarket setup with better cooling out of the box. I can buy, and will probably be priced better by then anyways.
No, the drivers are still useless. You have to manually change the fan speed. I'm sure they'll come out eventually, no idea if it'll actually do anything, but, ya know, wishfull thinking and all, lol. :P I'm saving up to build a new computer (first time), but after hearing about the new Nehalem Processors coming out.... I dunno know if I should blow it all now... Crap, lol.
