8500 GT 1GB RAM on TF2

Okay, I have a ~fairly~ decent gaming computer for the $500 I put into it. I have a P4 Hyperthreaded @ 3.2 GHz, 2 GB of dual channel PNY RAM at 667 MHz., and an...ATI Radeon X1050 256 MB PCIe...well I recently got big into TF2, and my card barely gets 20 FPS in the middle of 2fort. This is running maxed out at 1024x768, everything max except motion blur, v-sync, antiailiasing(off). AF at 16x, Models High, Textures Very High, Shader Model High, Reflect Everything, Color Correction on(does it make a difference?), shadows medium(that's as high as it goes on my machine). I was looking into a BFG Tech Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT with 1 GB DDR2 RAM. Would this run TF2 maxed out at 1024x768? Even if it only got 40 FPS, it's an improvement over the POS I have now. Thanks in advance for the help. Oh and if it's not going to do the job, what's a decent card for ~$150? Looking for Nvidia only, people. Thanks.8500 GT 1GB RAM on TF2
Why 8500? Just get an 8600GT (no point in going beyond that for a P4 dinosaur) for $70-80.8500 GT 1GB RAM on TF2
Thats not a good card if anything get something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150295 -$120 ($90 after rebate) (8800GS)
A P4 can run a 8800GT just fine.
A P4 can run a 8800GT just fine.
Possibly, but why bother spending money on a computer with a P4? They were dogs even when they were new (and Athlon 64 held the crown). Now they're just old and tired.
You can always take that graphics card to a new machine upgrading alittle at a time.
The 8500GT is pretty bad since overall its not very good and it can't even utilize more than 256mb of ram, so your basically paying for a marketing scheme with the whole 1GB. If you can afford it then the 8800GS would be miles above the 8500GT and would play almost every game on max settings. The only thing is that it would require a new powersupply but the antec basiq 500w can be found for $40 which isn't bad.
TF2 is pretty CPU dependent also. With my CPU at 3.2GHz I get 80+ FPS, with it at 1.6GHz I get 20-30FPS.
A P4 can run a 8800GT just fine.
well it depends on the game. for tf2 or cod4 sure it will run fine, but crysis there will be a significant bottle neck. but back to the question and the 8500gt with 256 or 1gb ram wont make any difference, the 8500 isn't meant for serious gaming. get a 8600gt or 8800gt both are way faster than the 8500gt and the 8600gt doesn't cost much more and is over twice the speed
i dont know what to say but could you give your self a favor and just buy 4850 for like 179$ amazon website .
Skip the 8600GT and get a 9500GT. Much better value.

Oc'd 9600gso = $105 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121251 )Good deal IMO, should run TF2 very well maxed.
The 8500GT is a great card for source games at 1280x1024 or less. You don't need the 1GB model though. Find a 256/512 GDDR2/3 version. Also, don't spend more than $50-60 on one.
Well thanks for all your help people. I decided to go with a PNY Verto 9600 GT Overclocked with 512MB RAM. Is that a good card? It only cost about $185 after tax. I haven't put it in yet, need a bigger PSU :\ Will that get Tf2 done on Very High settings at 1280x1024? That would be cool.
Mine's only 3.2GHz, so don't feel bad lol

The 9600GT should be around 100-130.
