OK I have got a pretty old pc here need some advice on upgrading. The only games i could ever run were duke nukem 3d, doom , and half life 1 , ect. I wana see if i can get half life 2/bioshock to run on my rig with xbox360/ps3 quality graphics, so i need some advice on what video card I should buy or if I need to upgrade my ram. ok I have a pentium 4 with 1.80ghz and 512 ram and AGP port (yes I know that sucks). so what do you guys think ? could I just get a really good vid. card and have that play half life 2 on high settings? thanks for any help.. Half-life 2 system requirements/upgrading
I say Save up about $700 bucks, and builid a new PC.Or get a PS3/Xbox 360. A middle-class 360 is only $300 dollars, you know. Half-life 2 system requirements/upgrading
I say Save up about $700 bucks, and builid a new PC.,,
Concur but you can bump that right to about $1300 since he probably has a 13'' CRT, no speakers of note, not even a kb/m worth saving. And will need an OS. And if you're then going to spend $1100-$1150 what's another $150 to get truly decent parts.
Although I wouldn't recommend spending any money on that aging machine, a video card upgrade would allow you to play hl2 on high settings. This card would prolly be the best choice, something better would be pointless. I used to play hl2 on high with an old celeron, 6600gt and 512mb RAM without any probs, so you should be fine. Other games like cod2, farcry should run fine as well. Any more recent games like bioshock, it would be best just to build a new rig.
Well, like I said, you're gonna have to either save up more money or just get home console. However, if you research heavily, you can build a PC, I believe for even Sub $500, including OS.
I have a list of parts around here somewhere, including OS, for $700 on the nose. Granted, that was a couple months ago, so those parts would be even cheaper now.
